Concept Note
The International Conference on English Studies for Sustainable Societies
and Cultures aims to create an enduring and multidisciplinary approach to
English Studies, and provide a platform to exchange knowledge, ideas,
experiences and expectations around the challenges of quality language learning
for sustainability and healthy societies.
English studies provide students with a comprehensive and critical
understanding of the theory and practice of English in educational and
professional contexts. The knowledge and skills students acquire in these
programmes enable them to become innovative and reflective professionals in a
range of institutional settings.
In academia, language studies give an access to historical and emerging
trends of language, literature and culture. Through critical interpretations
and dialogue, we can see how it mediates through texts arranged and allows
different ways of knowing and living.
Progress in sociolinguistics has also proven that ‘language’ had become most
intimate and sensitive index of identity.
Civic society believes in fundamental values of multilingualism and a common
language for unprecedented possibilities and opportunities for international
cooperation.
Rise of English as ‘World English’ has to be accepted objectively without
taking sides on political fronts or adopting any type of triumphalist tone.
The conference targets to open a debate among the different stakeholders on
emerging English studies, its sustainable character to transform society at
local and global level and provide intellectual guidance and scientific
evidences to the challenges of modern, diverse societies with humanist and
critical thinking, further promoting collaborative, interdisciplinary research
and education in humanities, social sciences and sciences.
